Babar Azam is currently busy playing in the ongoing Pakistan Super League. In this current edition, he is the skipper of Peshawar Zalmi. On 16 March 2023, his team will take on Islamabad United in eliminator 1 of the tournament. His team finished in fourth position at the table with 10 points from 10 matches.

Now, during a Peshawar Zalmi podcast, Babar Azam was asked which league is better between Big Bash League and the Indian T20 League. In reply to that, he considered the league from Australia over the rich-vein league from India. Hearing that, fans went crazy and slammed the Zalmi skipper on the social media platform.

In that podcast, Babar Azam said: ''The conditions over there in Australia are different. The pitches over there are really fast and you get to learn a lot. Whereas in Indian T20 League, you get the same Asian conditions.'' However, he has not played yet in the Big Bash League. On the other hand, he has not got any chance to play in the Indian T20 League either due to the political tension between India and Pakistan. No Pakistani players are allowed to play in India. Recently, he registered his name in The Hundred draft for 2023. 

He entered the draft with a reserve price of £100,000. Speaking of Babar Azam, he has shown a great run of form in the ongoing PSL for Peshawar Zalmi. In PSL 8, Babar has scored 416 runs in nine matches, at an average of 52. He has also smacked one century and four cities so far. Currently, he is in the second spot in the race of being the highest run-scorer for this ongoing edition. Even, his strike rate has improved highly this season as it has been around 146.47 and fans have acknowledged that so far.
