England and Sri Lanka locked horns in the 39th match of the ongoing edition of the 20-20 World Cup. Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka won the toss and decided to bat first at the mixed-supportive turf of the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney. Batting first, the islanders post a total of 141 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
While chasing the target Jos Buttler’s men managed to cross the line in 19.4 over to win the match and enter the semi-finals surpassing the hosts Australia who recently won against Afghanistan by a very close margin of four runs.
Cricket fans also came up with their multiple reactions and opinions on the social media platform, Twitter as England has now become the second team from the Group 1 to reach the knockouts of the eighth edition of the tournament.

#SriLanka brought in Karunaratne for these conditions, haven’t used him for a single over, and had their 2 fastest bowlers being milked to death bowling cutters.

Speaking of the match, Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka played a brilliant knock of 67 runs off just 45 balls with two boundaries and five sixes to his name. Other than Nissanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa was the only batter who crossed the mark of 20 runs. On the back of Nissanka’s half-century, Sri Lanka posted a total of 141 runs losing eight wickets.
Senior pacer Mark Wood ended up the inning as the leading wicket-taker for England as he scalped three wickets after conceding 26 runs in three overs.
While chasing the target, senior opener Alex Hales and star all-rounder Ben Stoked played vital individual knocks of 47 runs and 42 runs respectively to guide England to the successful run-chase two balls prior to the completion of the match.
For Sri Lanka, Lahiru Kumara, de Silva, and Wanindu Hasaranga scalped two wickets each but unfortunately, they couldn’t restrict the three lions before the target.
