Jasprit Bumrah, India’s lead pacer, was ruled out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 due to injury and many predicted that the bowler has become vulnerable to injuries. Assessing Bumrah's bowling technique, a former legendary pacer said that it would be difficult for Bumrah to extend his peak for a long time as he plays all three formats.

Jeff Thomson, the former fiery pacer, said that it was up to the Indian bowler to decide which of the three formats he wanted to play. Commenting on Bumrah’s injury, the former cricketer said that the bowler cannot play all three formats for a long time. Reasonably, Bumrah has been in and out of the squad in the current year and only has himself to blame for it.

Although India are missing his services in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup, the presence of Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh is helping India to contain the run flow of the aggressive batters. Thomson said that “Bumrah puts too much weight on his body and because he plays all formats, he is bound to get injured”.

More than emotion, it is about what works for you: Thomson

Further, Thomson said that Bumrah must go with fans' emotions and added that white ball cricket is becoming less valuable with World Cups being played every year. "In Test cricket, he needs to bowl 15 overs in a day. You can well understand which formats he needs to play to prolong his career. And with World Cups every year, white ball formats are no less important,” said the former cricketer further.

“In a player’s career, it is only a decade that you can bowl at the top. So more than emotion, it is about what works for you. What makes your career work better and what helps you serve your country for longer. It is about what the crowd wants and what he wants,” he added.

“If people love to see him bowl for India in white ball cricket and he can help India win World Cups, why should he give up on white ball for other formats? That he can’t play all formats is evident to everyone because of the number of times he is getting injured,” said Thomson further.
