The 38th match of the ongoing IPL took place in Mohali on 28 April 2023. Punjab Kings (PBKS) locked horns with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Before this clash, PBKS were in the sixth position with eight points in seven games. In contrast, LSG were in the fourth position with eight points in seven games.

In the reverse fixture this season, PBKS defeated LSG at Lucknow. So, it was a chance for them to do a double-over LSG. However, Shikhar Dhawan made a comeback as the skipper of PBKS and he won the toss. Dhawan opted to bowl first and for LSG, Kyle Mayers and skipper KL Rahul came out to bat.

LSG smashed the second-highest total in IPL history against PBKS

While batting first, LSG batters ran a riot and smashed the second-highest total in IPL history. They scored 257 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. Mayers scored 54 runs off 24 balls, including seven fours and four sixes. Then, Ayush Badoni scored 43 runs off 24 balls, including three fours and three sixes. But, it was Marcus Stoinis who scored 72 runs off 40 balls, including six fours and five sixes. Along with them, Nicholas Pooran also smashed 45 runs off 19 balls, including seven fours and one six.

For PBKS, Rabada picked up two wickets while Arshdeep Singh, Sam Curran, and Liam Livingstone took one scalp each. For the chase, PBKS batters tried hard to maintain the required run rate from the start of the innings. But, in 14 overs, they scored 140 runs for four wickets. In the remaining six overs, they needed 118 runs. Atharva Taide scored 61 runs off 33 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. Sikandar Raza also scored 36 runs off 22 balls, including four fours and one six. After that, some small contributions came from the following batters. But, PBKS got bundled out for 201 runs in 19.5 overs. Thus, LSG won the match by 56 runs. For LSG, Naveen-ul-Haq grabbed three wickets and Yash Thakur took four wickets.
