On 22 March 2023, Australia won the three-match ODI series 2-1 against India. In the context of the World Cup year, it was a concerning loss for the Men in Blue under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. But, Suryakumar Yadav made headlines throughout the series as he managed a shameful record to his name.
Yadav became the first Indian batter to score three golden ducks in three consecutive ODIs. It was quite shocking to see such a batter going through such a form in the series. Despite being the number one-ranked batter in the shortest format of the game, it was surprising to see him batting like that. Now, after the series loss, Rohit Sharma came up with some blunt replies while talking about Suryakumar Yadav.

While speaking at the press conference after the third ODI, Rohit Sharma said that it is very hard to judge Yadav as he played only three balls throughout the series. He said: “He played only three balls in the series. I don’t know how much you can look into it. He got three good balls. Today, (Wednesday) I didn’t think it was that great a ball. He just chose the wrong shot. He should have, maybe, come forward. He knows best.”
Rohit further added: “He plays spin so well, which is why we wanted to hold him back and give him that role of last 15-20 overs. But it’s really unfortunate that he could only play three balls in the series. That can happen to anyone. The potential, the quality is always there. He’s just going through that phase right now”. However, after hearing such a statement, fans were not happy and they slammed the team India skipper brutally on the social media platform. They even claimed that other players should be given more preference than Suryakumar Yadav.
