Australia are already in Bengaluru, India in order to get prepared for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The four-match Test series will begin on 9 February 2023 in Nagpur. However, this time around, Australia are not going to play any tour or practice games. While some former cricketers questioned such a decision, some cricketers claimed that it is the right decision ahead of the series.

Australia are currently preparing for the series at the KSCA Stadium on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The stadium is in Alur, around 25 km from the city center of Bengaluru. The Aussies are busy in a 4-day training camp at the KSCA Stadium. However, Steve Smith claimed that the tour game before the 2017 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India was totally irrelevant.

Australia have not won a Test series in India since 2004

He said that they were offered a green track in the tour game while they got a ‘Rank-turner’ in the first Test at Pune. While speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Smith said: "The last time we went I'm pretty sure we got served up a green top (to practice on) and it was sort of irrelevant. We're better off having our own nets and getting spinners in and bowling as much as they can. We'll wait and see when we hit the ground. I think we've made the right decision to not play a tour match." Now, some images have gone viral where the practice pitches were seen as completely customized and rank-turner.

Australia made a specific request to train at the venue. They also had a two-day spin camp in North Sydney before coming to India. That camp took place at Bon Andrew's Oval in North Sydney where curators prepared a pitch that resembled a sub-continent wicket. In this ongoing camp in Alur, the KSCA curators prepared the pitch in such a way that it would turn square as it wears down. As per cricket.com.au, there was enough evidence of spin on Day 1 of their training camp. The Aussies are also taking the help of Mahesh Pithiya, whose bowling action is similar to Ravichandran Ashwin. Pithiya made his Ranji Trophy debut in 2022 for Baroda and he was flown in from Vadodara.
