Rohit Sharma is currently the all-format skipper for team India. India even managed to win several series so far under the captaincy of the star batter. However, during his initial days of playing, he used to play in the middle order for the Men in Blue. Then, he became an opener as MS Dhoni promoted him in 2013.

Since then, his career has taken a leap. Now, he is one of the best openers across all formats of the game in the world of cricket. But, recently, he opened up about the real reason behind his success so far as an opener. He claimed that it was data analytics that helped him a lot to do well as an opening batter.

“If it weren’t for the data analytics, I would not have had the success I have today.” - Rohit Sharma

While speaking to Sportsstar, Rohit Sharma said: “When I was asked to become an opener in 2013, I wanted to go through the footage and the data of what the best openers worldwide were doing. If it weren’t for the data analytics, I would not have had the success I have today.” The current team India's head coach, Rahul Dravid even shared the importance of data and technology in the game. He said: “There is no doubt that data and technology play a huge role in our ability to coach players better. It is much easier to have conversations with players using data.”

Earlier in 2002, the former team India great, Sachin Tendulkar also said: “The technology helped us prepare with more precision. It was not left up to an individual’s imagination. For example, how does a batsman set himself when playing the sweep shot? All these intricacies were available in front of our eyes, and the team meetings became more purposeful.” Listening to that, fans went crazy and slammed Rohit Sharma. They even raised questions about the overall success that he was referring to during the interaction.
