On 22 March 2023, India and Australia locked horns with each other in Chennai for the third match of the ongoing ODI series. It was a series decider and hence, an enthralling battle was waiting for fans. Speaking of the match, Steve Smith won the toss and elected to bat first. The visitors made two changes from their win over the Men in Blue in the second ODI.

David Warner and Ashton Agar came into the playing XI in place of Nathan Ellis and Cameron Green. On the other hand, India went with an unchanged side from the last game. For Australia, it was quite surprising to see that Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh came out for the opening instead of David Warner.

Australia scored 269 runs in 49 overs against India in Chennai

However, both openers gave a steady start to Australia. They put up a partnership of 68 runs for the first wicket. Head scored 33 runs while Marsh scored 47 runs. Then, Smith’s poor run throughout the whole India tour continued as she went for a three-ball duck. David Warner came to bat in the middle order for the second time in his entire career. But, he failed to score big as Warner departed after scoring 23 runs.

Marnus Labuschagne and Stoinis scored 28 and 25 runs respectively. Alex Carey scored 38 runs before getting out to a gem of a delivery from Kuldeep Yadav. After that, the tailenders also came up with small contributions as they got bundled out for 269 runs in 49 overs. For India, Hardik Pandya took three wickets for 44 runs in eight overs. Along with him, Kuldeep Yadav grabbed three wickets for 56 runs in 10 overs. Apart from them, Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj took two wickets each. Hence, India got a target of 270 runs to seal the series by 2-1 against the Aussies. For India, the skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill came out for the chase.
