The stage was set for both teams India and Australia in Mumbai for the first ODI on 17 March 2023. It was the first match of the three-match series that took place at the Wankhede stadium. However, Rohit Sharma missed the series opener as he went to attend his brother-in-law’s marriage. So, Hardik Pandya got the opportunity to lead the team.

Speaking of the match, Pandya won the toss and opted to field first. However, Australia stunned everyone as they did not keep David Warner in the playing XI. For the Aussies, Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh came out to open the innings. Meanwhile, team India's bowlers were on fire since the start as Siraj took the wicket of Head for just five runs off 10 balls.

Then, Steve Smith came out and put up a partnership of 72 runs for the second wicket. Then, the Aussie skipper got out for 22 runs off 30 balls, including four boundaries. Marsh played some delightful shots and scored 81 runs off 65 balls, including 10 fours and five sixes. Apart from them, no other batters managed to score big as they got bundled out for just 188 runs in 35.4 overs. In the fielding department, Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul managed to grab some top catches.

For team India, Mohammed Shami took three wickets for 17 runs in six overs. Along with him, Mohammed Siraj also grabbed three wickets for 29 runs in 5.4 overs. Ravindra Jadeja made a fantastic comeback in the white-ball format as he grabbed two wickets for 46 runs in nine overs. Apart from them, both Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya took one wicket each. So, fans were happy to see such a dominating performance from the bowlers. They came up and shared some funny memes on social media to troll the batting effort from the visitors in Mumbai.
