On 24 May 2023, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) took on Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing IPL. It was the eliminator clash that took place at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Cheapuk. In the group stage, LSG finished third with 17 points in 14 games. While MI finished fourth with 16 points in 14 games.

However, MI fans were worried about the overall record of their team against LSG in the IPL. In all three previous meetings, LSG defeated MI. So, all eyes were set on the performance of Rohit Sharma and his men. Speaking of the match, Rohit won the toss and opted to bat first in this must-win clash.

MI defeated LSG by 81 runs

For MI, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan came out to open the innings. But, both of them went cheaply as MI were on 38 runs for two wickets in 4.2 overs. Ishan scored 15 runs off 12 balls and Rohit scored 11 runs off 10 balls. Then, Cameron Green continued his form from the last game as he scored 41 runs off 23 balls, including six fours and one six. After him, significant contributions from Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David, and Nehal Wadhera helped MI to score 182 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. For LSG, Naveen-ul-Haq was the star as he took four wickets for 38 runs in four overs. Along with him, Yash Thakur grabbed three wickets while Mohsin Khan took one.

In reply, LSG batters had a difficult start as they were at 54 runs for two wickets in six overs. Mayers scored 18 runs off 13 balls, including three fours. Then, Marcus Stoinis scored 40 runs off 27 balls, including five fours and one six. Apart from them, no other batters managed to score big as LSG were at 100 runs for nine wickets after 15 overs. Finally, they got bundled out for 101 runs in 16.3 overs and MI won the match by 81 runs. Thus, LSG got eliminated and now, MI will now face GT in qualifier two in Ahmedabad. Akash Madhwal took five wickets for five runs in 3.3 overs.
