‘Ahmedabad mein iska ek statue banwalo’ – Fans go crazy as Shubman Gill smashes maiden IPL Century against SRH in IPL 2023

On 15 May 2023, Gujarat Titans (GT) took on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing IPL in Ahmedabad. Before this clash, GT were in the top spot with 16 points in 12 games while SRH were in the ninth spot with eight points in 11 games. So, it was a must-win clash for SRH to stay alive in the tournament. However, GT fans were hoping for a big knock from Shubman Gill at the home ground. 

Before this clash, he was in the race for the Orange Cap this year. Speaking of the match, Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to bowl first. He said: “We are gonna bowl first, looks like there is moisture on this wicket. Trying to play really good cricket, up to our potential and abilities. We have been playing really good cricket but not getting over the line. Would like to pack a punch tonight. Marco Jansen comes in for Glenn Phillips.”    

First IPL century for Shubman Gill

While Hardik Pandya said: “Yeah, it is a special inititiave to support cancer patients. We have played really good cricket. The standing in the table doesn’t matter that much, you have to play good cricket. When we started, we knew it would be a tricky year for us. The players have put up their hands in tough situations and put their hands up. It is a fresh wicket, we would have liked to field as well. We have a couple of forced changes. Shankar got hit by a ball in the net yesterday, Sai comes in. Shanka makes his debut and also Yash Dayal is back.”

For GT, Shubman Gill came out to bat with Wriddhiman Saha. But, Saha managed a three-ball duck only. But, Gill played some outstanding shots and smashed his maiden IPL ton. He scored 101 runs off 58 balls, including 13 fours and one six. His knock helped GT to score 188 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. After this knock, Gill is now in second place with 576 runs in 13 games, at an average of 48 and a strike rate of 146.19. In this edition of the tournament, he has now smashed four fifties and one century. He is now in the second spot in the race for the Orange Cap.
