Ravindra Jadeja, the star Indian allrounder, was ruled out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 due to an injury he sustained during the Asia Cup last year and eventually was sidelined for the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Much to the delight of the Indian fans, on January 24, Tuesday, Jadeja made his comeback in Ranji Trophy for the game against Tamil Nadu played at Chennai.

On Day 3, Thursday, Jadeja announced his comeback in style after picking up a seven-for to his name, making a statement ahead of the Border-Gavaskar trophy slated on February 9 against Australia. For the unversed, Jadeja is a part of the squad for the first two Tests against the Baggy Greens although his inclusion would be subject to his fitness.

To add more to the match, it was Tamil Nadu who batted first and put on 324 runs on the board on the back of half-centuries from Baba Indrajith, Vijay Shankar and Shahrukh Khan. To add more, while Indrajith gathered 66 runs to his name in the first innings, Shankar and Shahrukh amassed 53 and 50 runs respectively, helping the team cross the 300-run mark.

Saurashtra, trailing by a huge margin, got off to a shaky start and the skipper Jadeja perished for 16 runs in the first innings, letting the team down. Much to the dolefulness of the southpaw’s fans, Saurashtra were bowled out for just 193 runs. With a lead of over 100 runs, Tamil Nadu failed to replicate the same energy from the first innings and Jadeja’s wrath saw the Pradosh Paul-led team bundle out for 133 runs.

As far as Jadeja’s spell is concerned, the allrounder conceded 53 runs in the second innings and went on pick a seven-for, with the Tests against the Australians just days away. Saurashtra were reeling at 4/1 chasing a target of 266 runs at Stumps on Thursday, with too many left to gather on the final day.
