The 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have now moved to the bottom of the points table in the Indian Premier League 2023 after losing the 47th match of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 5 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday, May 4.

When it comes to the game, KKR won the toss and decided to bat first, but their choice was poor because they lost their dynamic opener, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, on a golden duck in the second over. Venkatesh Iyer, a left-hander, was able to score just seven runs before leaving the game.

Despite his best efforts, Jason Roy was unable to smash the balls and lost his wicket after just 20 runs. But skipper Rana and Rinku Singh kept the team on course and assisted in achieving a respectable total of 171 runs. Rana hit 42 runs for KKR off just 31 balls, including three fours and three sixes. .

In response, SRH could only score 166/8 in 20 overs while trying to attain a target of 172 runs. Skipper Aiden Markram (41) and Heinrich Klaasen (36) both had strong plays, but they were unable to stop the loss. Shardul Thakur and Vaibhav Arora each claimed two wickets for KKR's bowling unit.

They didn't have a great start to the chase as the top order disappointed once again as they kept losing wickets at regular interval of time. However, Captain Markram and the hot-handed Klaasen took on the mending job and did it very effectively after losing the top 4 within the first seven overs.

The pair put their team on track for a fourth victory of the year by putting together a 70-run stand for the fifth wicket. However, KKR wasn't ready to give up. Varun Chakravarthy was the star of the night as he somehow managed to defend 9 runs in the last over of the match.
