Chennai Super Kings (CSK) continued their winning momentum in the Indian Premier League 2023 as they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 29th match of the season at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, April 21. The four-time champions chased the short target of just 134 runs with 8 balls to spare.

Earlier, CSK captain MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bowl first. CSK bowlers then went on an incredible bowling performance to contain the visitors to only 134 runs. SRH decided to open with their first match openers, Abhishek Sharma and Harry Brook, who got the 2016 champion off to a strong start.

But the innings dragged on because of the spin. The pitch's sluggishness served Ravindra Jadeja well. He gave the SRH middle-order batsmen a terrible time with the gripping, spinning ball, and taking three wickets in the process.

He had considerable support from Maheesh Theekshana, making it challenging for SRH's lower order to recognise Pathirana's alterations. With 10 overs, CSK prevented the batters from hitting big shots. Dhoni was also excellent in the field of play, completing a catch, a stumping, and a run-out.

Brilliant batting performance by Devon Conway

And like always, Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad provided the team with a great start as they chased the target and made the most of the powerplay. The first wicket partnership between the two of them lasted 87 runs, and Gaikwad's unfortunate run out was the only thing that kept them apart. But Conway continued to run after the unbeaten half-century to win the game.

With the help of Conway's brilliant knock of 77 runs off just 57 balls, which included 12 fours and 1 six and Jadeja's brilliant spell in which he took 3 wickets and conceded just 22 runs in 4 overs, CSK registered their 4th win of the season and are now currently sitting on the 3rd position in the points table. CSK will face Kolkata Knight Riders in their next clash at the iconic Eden Garden in Kolkata and will continue to keep their winning momentum.
