Some of the stars get the highest bids in comparison to the other ones. But there have been also instances when teams invested a huge amount of money in a player and he struggled for every bit of second in his performance on the field.

So, here we’ll have a look at five players in the history of the Indian T20 League who received high amount of money during the auction. But eventually, they failed to deliver for the team in that very season.

Indian T20 League

The 24-year-old young wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has impressed everyone with some of his stellar performances in the last couple of years. On the back of his amazing performances in domestic cricket, Ishan made his first appearance in the 2016 edition of the Indian T20 League.

Keeping his consistency and good batting displays in international cricket in mind, Mumbai bought him in a handsome amount of INR 15.25 crores. But unfortunately, he couldn’t deliver up to the expectations of the team throughout the entire season of 2022. The Jharkhand-based batter could score 418 runs with an average of 32.15 having three half-centuries to his name.

The guy who amazed the cricket fraternity with his amazing speed variation. His name in the auction for the 2017 season resulted in bidding between the franchises. He earned a huge amount of 12 crores in that auction when Bangalore banked on him. It was 20 times more than his base price which was introduced at the beginning of the auction.

But Mills failed to translate and justify the amount with his performances on the field. He could scalp only five wickets with an economy of 8.57 per over. This performance also resulted in his omission from the team in the season of 2018 and he went unsold.

Glenn Maxwell (2020 – INR 10.75 crores)

The Melbourne-based Australian all-rounder stunned everyone with his magnificent outings for Punjab in the 2014 edition of the Indian T20 League. But he couldn’t continue that performance for the next few seasons. While playing for Delhi in the 2018 season, Maxwell was enduring a poor run of form with the bat.

Later on, Punjab banked on him again in the 2020 edition of the league with a massive amount of INR 10.75 crores. But, Maxwell was disappointed again and he could manage to score only 108 runs in 13 matches with only six in the whole season to his name.

Kevin Pietersen (2014 – INR 9 crores)

During the auction for the Indian T20 League’s season of 2014, Delhi bought England’s former batting stalwart Kevin Pietersen for a big amount of INR 9 crores. They showed their belief and invested in the senior batter. But it went very expensive for the franchise throughout the entire season.

KP flopped in that season and could score only 294 runs after playing 11 matches with an average of a mere 29 having only one half-century in the whole season. It was also the time when Pietersen was going through the hard times and grudges with English cricket management as in England and Wales Cricket Board.

Yuvraj Singh (2015 – INR 16 crores)

Former Indian batting great also known as sixer King, Yuvraj Singh made it to the headlines in the cricketing fraternity when Delhi played a bet of INR 16 crores in 2015. Although, it was also the time when Yuvraj was performing well in limited-overs cricket.

But the season of 2015 went like a nightmare for both Yuvraj Singh and Delhi as well. He could score only 248 runs in the 14 innings he played for the team. Yuvi scored runs with a poor average of 19.7. Later on, Delhi decided to release him ahead of the next season of 2016.
