5 Cricketers who had been accused of rape in their cricketing career, list also includes two Indians

Rape is considered one of the most heinous crimes of all, so coming back to the discussion, then there have been times when the cricketers faced accusations of rape. It eventually happened to affect their career also in a few cases.

So, here we’ll have a look at five instances when Cricketers were accused of raping, the list also includes two Indian cricketers as well.

Munaf Patel

Former Indian speedster Munaf Patel is not on the field of cricket for a long time and he is not playing active cricket. He had impressed everyone with his stellar performances for the Indian team when he was part of the team. He debuted for the team in the period 2000-2010 and produced some excellence.

Munaf was also a part of the squad that won the ODI World Cup of 2011. Although things went tough for the speedster in his personal life when he was accused of raping a gangster’s wife, a complaint was filed against him by the lady herself back in the year 2021.

Hardik Pandya

Star all-rounder is currently in the headlines of the social media and cricketing corridors following a few of his performances for the Indian team. Hardik Pandya had also been a part of the controversies off the field. These controversies also made him to stay away from the game as well for some time.

He was also one of those cricketers who were accused by gangster Riyaz Bhati’s wife. Although, they all were found non-guilty eventually the case was closed.

Luke Pomershbach

The 37-year-old played only one international match for the Australian team in his whole career. He had also marked his presence in the 2012 edition of the Indian T20 League. The league was not that memorable for him as he couldn’t deliver any strong performance with the bat.

Apart from all this, things went south for him when he was accused of assaulting his own fiancé in Delhi 10 years back in 2012, other than this, he allegedly molested a woman during the same period of time.

Shoaib Akhtar

Former legendary Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar has also had to face this negative heat of glamour. The guy known for his blunt attitude also faced false rape charges 17 years back in the year 2005. Although, it was completely a false case against him, and later on, the PCB came up with a statement clearing all the issues.

The fastest bowler in the world hung his boots from international cricket 11 years back in the year 2011 after the controversial exclusion from the playing XI of Pakistan in the World Cup 2011 semi-final against India.

Sandeep Lamichhane

In a series of events, the Nepalese skipper has been suspended from the game after the rape accusations from a girl in Kathmandu. The girl has accused the 22-year-old cricketer of raping her twice in a hotel in Kathmandu.

Currently, the investigation is still on in this case and police are looking out for what is actually on the field.
