Jonny Bairstow has been ruled out of the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League. The English batter was suffering from injury and has been out of the squad since last September. He was scheduled to play in the league and fans as well as the franchise were hoping he would be fine by the time the tournament began.
Matthew Short has been roped in by the Punjab franchise as a replacement for Jonny Bairstow. He had an excellent BBL season where he scored over 400 runs and was handy with the ball as well.
Here are three reasons why Matthew Short is the ideal replacement for Jonny Bairstow:
1) Recent form in T20 cricket

He was named Player of the Tournament in the current Big Bash League after scoring 458 runs and finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the competition – at a great average of 35.23 and a strike rate of 144.47 while opening for Adelaide Strikers. His finest effort was an unbroken 100 in a 230-run chase to defeat the Hobart Hurricanes.
