Indian cricket team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma is currently in action with the West Indies in the five-match T20I series. Both teams have played three T20Is in the series so far. The visitors’ side is leading the series with a score line of 2-1 after securing a comfortable win of seven wickets in the third fixture of the series.
Although there was threatening news for the men in blue as the regular skipper Rohit Sharma sustained a muscle pull in the second innings. He had to go back to the dugout due to this issue after scoring just 11 runs. Later on, the pair of Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer made a remarkable partnership for the Indian team and helped the team to win the match finally.
Apart from this, there are speculations that skipper Rohit Sharma might miss the fourth and last T20I matches of the series. In his absence, the management will surely look ahead for an option in the role of stand-in captain of India in the remaining two matches.
Suryakumar Yadav
The star Mumbai-based batter has impressed everyone with his stellar batting performances and heroics. He scored a couple of crucial knocks to rescue the Indian team from tough situations during the match. His 76-run knock settled an easy stage for the wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant to end the match in the favour of India.
Considering his fine managing techniques, SKY might be a good option in the role of stand-in skipper for the Indian team. He can add a lot to the youngsters with his decade-long career in domestic cricket in India. The 31-year-old has also a knack for leading the series.
Rishabh Pant
The 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has also led the Indian team in the five-match T20I home series. The team initially lost the first two matches of the series against the visitors. But later on, the men in blue made a strong come back and leveled the series with a score line of 2-2 as the last match of the series ended without any result.
So, there are enough chances and reasons on the grounds that the management might appoint him as the stand-in skipper of the Indians in the absence of Rohit Sharma in the remaining two T20Is of the series. The talented lad has also played a great role in the win of India in the third T20I in the ongoing T20I series.
Hardik Pandya
The 28-year-old star all-rounder had a great outing and an amazing start in the two-match T20I series against Ireland. Indian team toured the British country when the senior Test side was in action in the rescheduled last match of the five-match Test series against England.
Team India won both the matches of the series against the hosts and sealed the series with a score line of 2-0. Notably, it was the first international series for Hardik Pandya where he featured as the captain of the team.
So, he might be the first choice of management for stand-in captaincy as his records in this role are quite favorable for him.
