Although there have been epic clashes like India-Pakistan, Bangladesh-Zimbabwe, and Ireland-England in the ongoing showpiece event, great matches like England-Australia, and others got washed out due to rain.

As things stand, let us take a look at four epic face-offs that got washed out due to rain in the tournament:

1) New Zealand vs Afghanistan, Melbourne, Group 1

The New Zealand-Afghanistan clash was supposed to be one of the watch-out-for matches in the ongoing tournament. However, due to extreme weather conditions in Melbourne, the match was eventually called-off without a ball being bowled.

With each team taking home 1 point apiece, it spiced up the shape of Group 1 and the matches that followed turned out to be great ones as every team were chasing the net run rate and also the title simultaneously.

2) Afghanistan vs Ireland, Melbourne, Group 1

After missing out on their clash against New Zealand due to rain, much to the dreariness of the Afghanistan fans and team management, their next clash against Ireland got washed out as well.

It was expected to be a crucial one as it was a must-win game for Afghanistan to open their account in the Super 12 stages. However, with no mercy from the Rain gods, Afghanistan could take home only 1 point from the game.

3) England vs Australia, Melbourne, Group 1

Probably the second most anticipated game of the tournament between England and Australia after the India-Pakistan battle was abandoned without a single ball being bowled due to extreme weather conditions.

This turned out to be the turning point in Group 1 as both England and Australia were put in deep trouble. The Three Lions were in a must-win position following their loss against Ireland in the rain-affected match prior to the battle against Aaron Finch and his men.

4) Zimbabwe vs South Africa, Hobart, Group 2

This was an epic clash between the two teams as Zimbabwe managed to put on a total of 79 runs on the board after the match was reduced to 9 overs per side. However, the second innings was called-off mid-way due to incessant rains.

For the unversed, the target was revised to 64 off 7 overs due to further rain interruption. Quinton de Kock almost chased down the total single-handedly with his unbeaten 47 runs, powering the Proteas to 51 off just 3 overs. With just 13 runs required for the win, the match was called off as the rain interrupted yet again.
