The 20-20 World Cup is all set to start from tomorrow with the inaugural clash between Sri Lanka and Namibia. There are 16 teams who are participating in the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup. Notably, all teams have already announced their squads for the marquee event in Australia.
Although, all the teams faced some blows ahead of the tournament including the injuries of their players. It eventually made them replace other players at the last moment. With said that, here we’ll have a look at five players who touched down on Australian soil at the last moment to join their teams for the 20-20 World Cup 2022.

The Amroha-based senior pacer didn’t play any T20I after his last appearance for India in the 20-20 World Cup 2021. But in a surprising piece of news for everyone, he is back again in the Indian T20I squad for the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Shami has been named as the replacement for injured senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah who was ruled out of the tournament due to a knee injury.
Earlier, Bumrah was replaced by Mohammed Siraj in the recently-concluded three-match ODI series against South Africa. Notably, Shami had to link up with the team in Brisbane just a few days ahead of the start of the tournament.
Marco Jansen – South Africa

The 22-year-old young South African bowling all-rounder made his international debut in the shortest format of the game earlier this year against India. Since then, he has played only one T20I for the Proteas and scalped one wicket in that match.
He happened to be the last-moment inclusion in the South African squad as the replacement for all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius. Jansen had to join the national squad at the last moment for the eighth edition of this major international tournament.
Shardul Thakur – India

India’s fast-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur was not a part of the plans of the Indian management when they picked the initial squad. But he got a call to the national side amidst a sequence of injuries including the likes of Deepak Chahar and senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
Shardul has been added to the reserve list of players for the men in blue in the upcoming tournament. Along with Shardul, Mohammed Siraj has also been picked in the lineup at the last moment ahead of the coveted competition.
Alex Hales – England
The senior English opener has played a lot of T20I cricket for the national side of his country. Although, he was not included in the primary squad of England for the 20-20 World Cup. But Jonny Bairstow’s injury opened the doors for Alex Hales to play another edition of the 20-20 World Cup.
Speaking about the batting of Hales, then he has a handsome amount of experience of playing in Australian conditions.
Shamarh Brooks
The Caribbean side encountered one of the weirdest reasons to replace a player of the squad with another one. There was no injury to any player of the primary squad, but the negligence of discipline from Shimron Hetmyer made the board replace him and include Samarh Brook in the 20-20 World Cup.
Earlier, Hetmyer missed his flight to Australia and couldn’t join the squad on time for the preparations before the start of the tournament.
