In the third and final ODI of the series at Lord's on Saturday, Team India's top all-rounder Deepti Sharma displayed excellent game awareness to run Charlotte Dean out at the non-striking end. India won the three-match series with a clean sweep thanks to the dismissal.

However, as is typical with such a dismissal, there were differing opinions among the cricket community. While many praised Deepti for exploiting Dean for leaving her crease before the delivery, several English cricketers criticised the move for the sake of the "spirit of cricket."

One English cricket player, however, confronted his own teammate when the latter criticised Deepti Sharma, even going so far as to claim that it's "not just cricket". “There’s surely not a person who has played the game that thinks this is acceptable? Just not cricket…” Sam Billings had tweeted.

It's not tough for batters to remain at the crease until the bowler releases the ball, said Alex Hales, who recently made a comeback to the England T20I team. "It shouldn’t be difficult for the non striker to stay in their crease til the ball has left the hand…" wrote Hales.

Billings responded with a sarcastic remark addressed towards Hales. "not like you to be different Alex," he wrote.

Here is their war of words

Speaking of the incident, Deepti Sharma said, "Kuchh nahi, wo plan tha hmara. Jo rules me jo guidelines hain uske according him humne kiya (Nothing, that was our plan. We have done according to the guidelines which are in the rules)."

The Indian star further added that Dean had a warning from the team to the umpires. She did not hesitate to acknowledge that it was a legal dismissal and backed herself for doing so. "Haan haan bilkul. Wo to umpires ko bola tha hmlogon ne (Yes yes absolutely. We had informed the umpires that she was stepping out of the crease multiple times)," she added.
