Bangalore failed to register a win in their second consecutive match of the Women’s T20 League. This time, it was Mumbai that outplayed the red outfits in all departments of the game. Notably, both teams locked horns in the fourth match of the tournament at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Bangalore skipper Smriti Mandhana won the toss yet another time and decided to bat first against Mumbai. Batting first, they could post a total of 155 runs for the loss of all wickets in 18.4 overs in the first innings.

Mumbai comfortably chased down this target only in 14.2 overs to win the match by a massive margin of 9 wickets and registered their second consecutive victory in the tournament. Speaking of the entire action of the match, Bangalore got a decent start of 39 runs for the first wicket in 4.2 overs from the openers, Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine. But it was the time when Bangalore’s top-order started collapsing like a pack of cards and they lost their five wickets only on the score of 71 runs. Eventually, on the back of a few 20+ knocks, Bangalore posted a total of 155 runs and lost all the wickets in 18.4 overs.

While chasing the target, Mumbai’s batters never looked uncomfortable in the game and they lost their only one wicket in the form of wicketkeeper-batter and opener, Yastika Bhatia on the team’s score of 45 runs. Following that, star opener Hayley Matthews and number three batter Nat-Sciver Brunt stitched an unbeaten partnership of 114 runs for the second wicket to finish the match for Mumbai and help the team win by nine wickets. Matthews played a sensational knock of 77 runs off just 38 balls with 13 boundaries and a six to her name partnered by NS Brunt who scored 55 runs off just 29 balls with nine boundaries and a six.

Eventually, Hayley Matthews won the ‘player of the award for her match-defining heroics in favor of Mumbai.
