On 8 April 2023, CSK locked horns with MI at the Wankhede stadium in the ongoing IPL. However, the home side failed to win the match as Chennai defeated them by seven wickets. But, they dealt a blow during that clash as their star pacer, Deepak Chahar just managed to bowl five balls before limping out of the field.

After that, he did not get featured in the rest of the match. So, fans were worried to know if he will be available for the next matches or not. Now, Cricbuzz have reported that Deepak Chahar sustained a hamstring issue and now, and he might miss quite a few games for CSK in this ongoing season. Seeing such a report, fans went berserk and slammed the player for his continuous fitness issues.

CSK spent 14 Cr. on Deepak Chahar in IPL 2022 auction

In IPL 2022, CSK spent INR 14 Cr. on Deepak Chahar. But, due to injury, he missed the entire tournament. Still, the team management showed faith in him and retained him for this ongoing season. As of now, in IPL 2023, Chahar has failed to take any wickets in all three matches. So, it has been a poor start to the tournament by the team India's pacer.

Meanwhile, after defeating MI, CSK skipper, MS Dhoni heaped praise on his spinners. He said: “Feels good. Not to forget we lost Deepak in the first over. He’s our new ball bowler and Magala is playing his first match. The good thing is the spinners bowled well. It was a bit two-paced and after seven overs, it started turning. The spinners and the fast bowlers came back well. Magala was good and so was Pretorius.”

Regarding Tushar Deshpande, the CSK skipper said: “We believe in him, and when you’re new you are under pressure but playing in the IPL for a few years brings different pressure. He had a great domestic season, he is improving. He has a lot of potential, but he can improve by not bowling those no-balls, and by being more consistent”.
