Two time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar arrested in Delhi, charged under section 302 of IPC

Two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar has been arrested in connection with the Chhatrasal Stadium brawl case that led to the demise of wrestler Sagar Rana. The Deputy Commissioner of Police PSK Kushwah confirmed that Sunil along with his associate Ajay was arrested from Mundka, Delhi.

Sushil Kumar and his fellow wrestlers allegedly assaulted Sagar Rana and his friends on May 04. While Rana’s friends suffered serious injuries, Rana could not survive the attack.

According to the police, the fight involved Kumar, Ajay, Prince Dalal, Sonu, Sagar, Amit and others. Dalal, a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana, was held in the case.

Sushil Kumar was booked under sections of 302 (murder), 308 (culpable homicide), 365 (kidnapping), 325 (causing grievous hurt), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation). It has also been registered under 188 (Disobedience to order by public servant), 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and various sections under the Arms Act.

The Delhi Police had earlier announced a reward of 1 lakh for the arrest of Sushil, who had escaped the town. Earlier, a Delhi Court had refused to grant anticipatory bail to Sushil Kumar, saying that the accusations against him are serious in nature. Non-bailable warrants were issued against Sushil Kumar and six other accused.
