Indian badminton star PV Sindhu created history as she won her maiden Singapore Open title. She beat China's Wang Zhi Yi by 21-9, 11-21, and 21-15 in the final. Overall, this is her third title in the ongoing year. Previously, she won the Syed Modi International and the Swiss Open BWF Super 300. In the final, she dominated the first round but her opponent made a comeback in the next round.

In the decisive round, the Indian star player dominated and clinched the title. After the win, the Hyderabad-born thanked her supporters and said that Singapore is a nice city. She also said that it is always great to win a final game after a long time. The two-time Olympic medal winner feels that she will go to another level after the win.

“Thanks to everyone out there who has been supportive. Singapore is a nice city, it is good to be here. It is always nice to win the finals after long. Getting this title today means a lot as it gives me a lot of confidence and will surely take me to another level,” Sindhu expressed her joy on the championship,” Sindhu expressed her joy after the win.

The 27-year-old added that the tournament was good for her and she is looking to turn her attention towards the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this month.

“The whole tournament has been good. This is just the start and I look forward to relaxing a bit before turning my attention to the CWG,” she added.

Meanwhile, a lot of prominent journalists, politicians and sports personalities have congratulated the badminton champion. Notably, she is the second Indian after Saina Nehwal to win this tournament. In 2010, Nehwal won the title. After the win, the Indian supporters chanted ‘Sindhu… Sindhu’ and ‘Bharat Matha Ki Jay’ echoing around the Singapore indoor arena. A lot of congratulatory messages have arrived on Twitter and there are many more to come.
