Ahead of the upcoming IPL auction in 2024, reports have revealed that star India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is set to make a comeback. According to the latest news reports, Pant is likely to be used as an impact player in the upcoming edition of the tournament.

It's worth noting that since December last year, Pant has been in recovery mode after being struck by a near-fatal car accident. He had struck his car in the divider while driving at a very high speed from New Delhi to his hometown, Roorkee. Since then, he has been recovering, and it seems he is now ready to get back on the field.

According to the impact player rule, franchises can replace a member of the playing eleven with one of the five substitutes named during the toss at any point during the match. It's worth noting that among the players retained by the Delhi Capitals on the IPL 2024 retention day are Rishabh Pant, David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, and Mitchell Marsh, among others.

It's worth noting that earlier this month, Sourav Ganguly, the cricket director of the Delhi Capitals, said that Rishabh Pant will lead the team in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. However, according to the rules, an impact player can't be the captain of the team.

"He's (Pant) good now. He will play in the IPL next season. We were talking about the team. He is the captain, so he put in his views regarding the upcoming auction. That's the reason he has come here—to finalise certain aspects related to the team," Ganguly said. It's worth noting that Pant last played for India in the Mirpur ODI in December last year.
