Sofia Kenin makes a return to court after four months, loses to Coco Gauff

Young Russian tennis star Sofia Kenin was not in action and missing the court for the last four months. She sustained a foot injury that couldn’t let her play for this particular time period. She slopped down to the ranking of 419 from her which is very far away from her career’s best ranking of number 4.

But Kenin has made a comeback to the court very recently with exhibition math. Citi Open in Washington D.C next week will be her first international assignment after the comeback. Apart from this, she played an exhibition match on her comeback against the 18-year-old American tennis star Coco Gauff. Although Kenin didn’t receive an expected welcome on the court and she lost to Gauff in straight sets with a score line of 1-6, 2-6.

Former world number four also talked about her comeback to the game again. She also expressed gratitude.

“I’m just thankful for a lot of things… I was in a cast (in April) and now I’m playing here. I’m just thankful,” Kenin was quoted as saying while talking about her comeback.

Notably, Kenin ended up last year at the ranking of world number four whereas this time her ranking was on world number 419 when she played against Gauff after the four-month-long off period from the court.

Although, the 23-year-old was struggling to deliver her best on her comeback. She went on to miss a couple of shots. But eventually, she was quite happy to be back again in action on the court. Her father and renowned tennis coach Alex Kenin also helped her a lot when she was struggling out of the action on the court.

On the other hand, the Florida-based teenager Coco Gauff was receiving wishes from the other side of the court. Being the home favorite, fans kept cheering her for her performance against Kenin. In a sweet gesture, Gauff handed over her racquet to a ball boy to play for the match point.

“I grew up here and haven’t been back in 10 years. So this is a very warm welcome… my experience here in Atlanta has been fantastic,”  Gauff was quoted as saying to the cheering crowd.
