The Indian team aimed to maintain their dominance with another impressive performance building on their victory in the first ODI. But it was not to be the case in the second ODI between India (IND) and South Africa (SA) at St George's Park in Gqeberha on December 19 as the young Indian side were totally dominated by Proteas. In the second ODI, it was SA who registered a thumping win against India by nine wickets. With this win the South African team have now levelled the series 1-1.

Talking about the game, the South African skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and elected to bowl first on batting friendly pitch. Having put into bat first the Indian team did not have the best start to the match as they lost opener Ruturaj Gaikwad (4) on the second ball of the match. After the wicket fell, Tilak Varma (10) and Sai Sudharsan (62) tried to steady the ship. But once, Tilak was dismissed, Sai along with skipper KL Rahul (56) built on a formidable 68-run stand for the third wicket.

This wicket of Sai Sudharsan triggered a dominos effect as the Indians lost their last five wickets for a score of just 44 runs. The Indian batters were only able to score 211 runs as they failed to play out their 50 overs. The star of the show from South Africa was Nandre Burger who picked up three wickets. Along with that Keshav Maharaj and Beuran Hendricks also chipped in with two wickets each.

In pursuit of the modest of the targets, the South African opening pair started cautiously. Both the openers negotiated the first powerplay with a run rate of less than four. Tony de Zorzi and Reeza Hendricks looked solid in defense as well as scoring runs at will. Both the opening batters combined together to stitch a century stand for the first wicket.

But against the run of play, Hendricks (52) lost his wicket to a well-directed bouncer from Arshdeep Singh. But de Zorzi did not let that affect his batting as he continued playing freely and went to register his maiden ODI century. Its last glimmer from Rinku Singh as well as who also picked up his maiden ODI wicket as he dismissed Rassie van der Dussen.
