Paarl Royals and Pretoria Capitals were the only two teams left to play in the first round of the SA20 league. The match turned out to be a one-sided affair as Paarl Royals claimed an easy win in front of their home fans.
Andile Phelukwayo and Van Burren scored crucial runs for their sides to help them to a decent total.
Paarl Royals coast to easy win over Pretoria Capitals –
Put into bat first bat, Paarl Royals began their SA20 campaign by scoring 160 runs on the board. Jos Buttler began slowly but his English partner Jason Roy went after the Capitals bowling attack. Skipper James Neesham got the first wicket when he castled Jason Roy for 23 runs.
From 42 for no loss to it was 56/3 as the home team lost wickets at regular intervals. David Miller and Van Burren added 61 runs for the fourth wicket to bring Paarl back into the contest. Andile Phelukwayo then used the long handle to score 28 runs from just 14 balls with four boundaries and a six. This pushed the score to 160 to give the home team a huge advantage heading into the break.
Chasing 161 to win, Lungi Ngidi and Obed McCoy had the visitors at 39/2. Phil Salt and Rilee Rossouw then added 39 runs for the third wicket to bring the Capitals back into the game. Once the two batters were out in a space of nine runs the match was all but over. Ngidi and McCoy bowled tight lines and lengths to help their team to an easy win to pocked their first points of the season.
