Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SUNE) defended their crown and clinched the coveted trophy again with a dominant win over Durban Super Giants (DSG) in the SA20 2024 final. Eastern Cape were table toppers in the group stage and continued to stamp authority at the business end of the tournament as well. Aiden Markram's side defeated Keshav Maharaj's Super Giants by a comprehensive margin of 89 runs at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town on Saturday, February 10.

It was a collective team effort from both departments that helped the Sunrisers franchise to its second consecutive title. A fine start from opener Jordan Hermann, half-centuries from Tom Abell and Tristan Stubbs, followed by captain Markram's blazing knock (42 off 26) saw them post a massive total (204/3) on the board after opting to bat first.

Super Giants were never in the game and were in fact blown away by the SUNE bowlers in the second innings (115/10 in 17 over). Their bowling unit was economical throughout the tournament and the tempo continued in the final as well. Fast bowling all-rounder Marco Jansen led from the front with a five-wicket haul. Contributions from Dan Worrall (2/15) and Ottniel Baartman (2/17) were also crucial to their success.

The SUNE camp was abuzz with celebrations as they did not allow anyone to get their hands on the elusive trophy yet. Skipper Markram received the trophy and raised it with his teammates around him. Fireworks followed and team owner Kavya Maran also joined the players to take pictures with the trophy.

Maran's support and passion for the game are some of the reasons behind SUNE's back-to-back successes. She was literally over the moon and why not? The 31-year-old often attends her team's matches and remains an unwavering supporter without bothering the results. She is a regular presence in Indian Premier League (IPL) matches of Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, after their 2016 triumph, she didn't get a chance to celebrate with the team.
