Batting first the visitors amassed a massive score of 210 runs on the board. David Miller and Mitchell Van Buuren led the charge with blistering half-centuries. This was after James Neesham had won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Despite the blazing batting by Rilee Rossouw and Will Jacks the home team couldn’t manage to win. Paarl’s bowlers rose to the occasion and helped their team win the game and move joint top of the table.

It has been a torrid start to the campaign for Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 League. Jason Roy was out for five runs when Will Jacks caught him off the bowling of Daryn Dupavillion. 44 runs were added for the second wicket between Jos Buttler and Wihan Lubbe from 23 balls.

That stand was broken when James Neesham had Lubbe caught by Jacks for 12. Jos Buttler was out for 39 to give Adil Rashid his only wicket of the game. Interestingly, Will Jacks picked his third catch to make it an all-English affair.

That was the last joy of the day for the Pretoria Capitals bowlers. David Miller and Mitchell Van Buuren then added 141 runs for the fourth wicket in an unbroken stand. Skipper David Miller was not out on 75 while Van Buuren scored 72 not out of 40 balls. Lungi Ngidi showed his remarkable bowling form by removing Phil Salt for 0 and Thenuis De Bruyn for 4. Will Jacks and Rilee Rossouw then fought back with a stand of 147 runs for the third wicket in 76 balls to give the home side some hope.

The re-introduction of Lungi Ngidi changed the game as he got the big wicket of Rossouw for 82 runs. Bjorn Fortuin then struck when he had the wicket of Will Jacks bowled for 58. James Neesham tried his best to bring his team back into the contest. The Royals bowlers though held their own and eked out a 10-run win.
