The second edition of South Africa's franchise Twenty20 cricket league, SA20, is in full swing offering some exciting moments to cricket fans across the world. The Keshav Maharaj-led side opened their campaign with an 11-run win over MI Cape Town (MICT). They got the better of the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SUNE) in the next game and their last victory came against JoBurg Super Kings on January 15. DSG had an underwhelming season last year, finishing fifth on the points table. But this time they look like a side determined to go all the way.

In this article, we look at three reasons why Durban Super Giants are favorites to win SA20 2024.

DSG have made a strong start to their campaign, which should boost their confidence going forward. Three out of three wins, and if they can keep the momentum going, they could end up winning the tournament. They have many match-winners in the squad and are clear favourites to win the 2024 season.

2. Quality bowling attack

DSG have a quality bowling department that can complement their batters well. Their skipper Keshav Maharaj is the main force in the spin unit and has already taken four wickets. T20 specialists like Keemo Paul and Dwayne Pretorius are supported by the English duo of Richard Gleeson and Reece Topley. Gleeson, who dismissed Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant in his maiden international spell, is currently third in the leading wicket-takers list. He is followed by Pretorius and Maharaj at No. 4 and 5 positions.

1. Formidable batting unit

Quinton de Kock at the top, Heinrich Klaasen and Nicholas Pooran in the middle-order - the names are enough to prove how strong DSG's batting unit is. Klaasen showcased his ferocious hitting with a 35-ball 85 against MICT and is currently third in the list of leading run scorers. Pooran did what he knows, hitting an unbeaten 60 off 31 balls at a strike rate of around 195 against SUNE. JJ Smuts has also looked in good touch as well, scoring a 38-ball 75 against Eastern Cape.
