The Australians came into the game after hammering the Dutch by a massive margin of 309 runs in New Delhi. The Kiwis on the other hand had lost their previous game to India at the same venue by 4 wickets.

Tom Latham won the toss and chose to bowl first on a really cold morning in Dharamshala. Both the teams made one change each, the Kiwis had James Neesham in place of Mark Chapman. For Australia Cameron Green made way for the much-anticipated debut of Travis Head.

Playing his first-ever ODI World Cup game for Australia, Travis Head made his intent clear right from the start. The 29-year-old began by hitting Trent Boult for a four. This was followed by two massive sixes versus Matt Henry in the 4th over of the Australian innings.

The runs started to flow as the Australian openers went after the Kiwi bowlers on what seemed like a good batting pitch. Travis Head reached the fastest half-century of the ODI World Cup 2023 with a four off Mitchell Santner.

There was no respite for the New Zealand bowler as the onslaught did not stop. Travis Head kept hitting boundaries with alarming ease to send the Kiwis on a leather hunt. The moment everyone had been waiting for finally arrived in the 22nd over.
