Shreyas Iyer took a stunning catch to dismiss dangerous Devon Conway in the 2023 World Cup match between India and New Zealand. The two unbeaten teams in the tournament currently lock horns (October 22, Sunday) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. Team India got off to a great start after captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first.

Jasprit Bumrah started the proceedings with a maiden over to Conway. On the second ball of the next over, Will Young hit a boundary off Mohammad Siraj to open New Zealand's account. Young tried to take the early pressure off by smashing another boundary in the third over against Bumrah. Siraj continued the attack in the third ball, he got the big wicket of Conway.

The right-arm seamer built the pressure with two dot balls and pushed the next delivery full onto the pads. Siraj tempted Conway to capitalise on it and the southpaw timed it pretty well. However, an alert Iyer at square leg took a spectacular sharp catch by diving low to his right side. Iyer was excited as was the entire team and the crowd.

Immediately after completing the catch, he gestured towards the fielding coach asking for the 'Best Fielder' medal with a golden smile on his face.

What is the 'Best Fielder' medal?

Team India have been following a unique tradition since the beginning of this World Cup to encourage the players to give their best on the field. The best fielder in each match will receive a gold medal after the end of the match from their fielding coach T Dilip.

Virat Kohli was the first one to receive the medal for his outstanding fielding efforts in India's opening match against Australia. Shardul Thakur won the second time for his stunning catch at the boundary line to dismiss Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz. While KL Rahul won in the match against arch-rivals Pakistan, Ravindra Jadeja won last after India's encounter against Bangladesh.
