After being asked to bat first, India posted a massive score of 357/8 on the back of a collective batting effort. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill laid the foundation with a 188-run partnership for the second wicket. The baton was handed over to Shreyas Iyer, who played a quick-fire knock (82 off 56) to help India set a massive target. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja added the finishing touch in the final overs.

In reply, Sri Lanka got off to the worst possible start as pacer Jasprit Bumrah dismissed their opener Pathum Nissanka on the very first ball of the innings. Mohammed Siraj also joined the party by taking two wickets in the second over. The onslaught was yet to come as Mohammed Shami claimed his second fifer of the tournament to restrict the Lankan innings to 55 runs in 19.4 overs.

After India's massive win, skipper Rohit gifted his shoe to a young Indian fan on his way back to the dressing room. The veteran opener was greeted with chants of 'Rohit-Rohit' and he responded with a beautiful gesture. Rohit could not shine with the bat as he got out for just four runs. But he definitely won the hearts of his fans with this great gesture.

Speaking after the match, Rohit said: "Very happy knowing that we have officially qualified now. Been a good effort from the squad, when we started off in Chennai. This was our goal, to qualify first and then obviously to be in the semis and the finals. The way we approached these 7 games, it was quite clinical. Everyone put in the effort and a lot of individuals have put their hand up. Was a good challenge to put runs on the board, and that's the kind of template you gotta have when you want to score that many runs. 350 on any pitch is a very good score and a lot of credit to the batting unit for taking us to that score and the bowlers did the job obviously."
