Everything was going well for Team India and their fans until November 19 afternoon. Rohit Sharma and Co. entered the 2023 ODI World Cup as favourites, and there was no doubt about that until the summit clash against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. They were unstoppable by winning 10 matches on the trot against all participating teams.

However, when it mattered most, Australia rose to the occasion and silenced the entire nation with a stellar performance in front of a 'blue sea'. Despite having three of their batters and bowlers in the top 10 list of leading run scorers and wicket-takers, it was quite unfortunate to see the hosts on the losing side. But all credit to Australia and especially to captain Pat Cummins and Travis Head.

India's defeat was confirmed after Head and Marnus Labuschagne continued their brilliant partnership. But when Glenn Maxwell scored the winning runs, the Indian players were hiding their tears. Virat Kohli and Rohit, the two icons of Indian cricket, were seen with dejected faces, and many videos and pictures were circulating on social media following the painful defeat.

Kohli had a phenomenal outing tournament, scoring 765 runs at an average of 95.62 with three centuries and six fifties. He also broke several world records, including becoming the first player to notch up 50 ODI centuries. Despite failing to win the World Cup, the 35-year-old won the Player of the Tournament award.

Meanwhile, an unseen video of Kohli is doing the rounds on social media, where the star batter can be seen dejected following the World Cup final. As the six-time champions celebrated the victory on the field, Kohli could not hide his emotions and walked towards his teammates before disturbing the stumps with his cap.

'Rohit and Virat were crying' - R Ashwin recalls atmosphere in Indian dressing room after WC final defeat

In a conversation with former India cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin opened up about the atmosphere in the Indian dressing room after the painful defeat. The off-spinner revealed that Rohit and Kohli were crying.

"Yes, we felt the pain. Rohit and Virat were crying. Seeing that it felt bad. Anyways, not meant to be. This team was an experienced team. Everybody knew what to do. And then, it was professional. Everybody knew their routines, and warm-ups. I think two natural leaders gave the team the space to do these two and created a vibe," said Ashwin.
