India head coach Rahul Dravid has been working with the team after the forgettable campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021. He replaced Ravi Shastri, one of the longest-serving coaches of the team. Since then, the team played the final of the World Test Championship 2023, the semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2022, and won the Asia Cup this year.

Apart from this, the team missed out on the finals in last year's continental tournament. In the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, the team has reached the finals without losing a game. For the first time after the Champions Trophy 2017, the team has managed to win a knockout game in white-ball World Events. Meanwhile, Dravid's extension as the head coach is yet to be discussed.

As reported by Cricbuzz, the top bosses in the Indian Cricket Board weren't happy with his coaching style. However, with the Men In Blue winning the Asia Cup 2023 and reaching the final of the ongoing World Cup, the board's stance has changed. With the team's performance being right at the top, the board might look to give the former India skipper another extension.

However, it will be interesting to see if the Karnataka player is himself interested. Over the years, he has been known to work on the sidelines and not get much attention. In the last two years, he has not just gotten the attention but also the trolling and love from the fans equally. Apart from him, the likes of batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach T Dilip are likely to be offered extensions.

Rahul Dravid might get rested for the Australia series

Even if the former wicketkeeper batter gets an extension, he still might get rested for the five-match T20I series against Australia. The series will start right after the ongoing tournament. VVS Laxman, who has filled in his place before, will continue to do so.
