South Africa middle-order batter Heinrich Klassen has put behind the rare failure against England in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 game. The Proteas were coming off a surprising loss against the Netherlands early this week. However, in the ongoing game, they have just shaken off the defeat just like nothing happened. After losing the toss, the Green Brigade was asked to bat first.

Even though they lost the wicket of in-form Quinton de Kock on the second ball of the game, they did well with the bat. First up, the likes of Reeza Hendricks (replacement of Temba Bavuma) and Rassie van der Dussen put together 121 runs for the second wicket. Both players scored a fifty while the stand-in skipper scored 42 runs. At one stage, the team was reduced to 243/5.

At this point, the defending champions looked like making a good enough comeback. The four-time semifinalists didn't look like getting more than 360 runs at the end of the innings.

At 243/5, the likes of Klassen and Jansen joined hands and needed to build a partnership and help the team bat out the opposition on a small ground in Mumbai. Meanwhile, the former scored his second hundred of the tournament after getting 109 off 67 balls including 12 fours and four sixes. On the other hand, bowling all-rounder Jansen amassed an unbeaten 75 off 42 balls including three fours and six sixes.Β

They helped the team reach a difficult total of 399/7 at the end of the innings. They put together 151 runs for the sixth wicket

"Incredible innings from Klaasen. Was quite hot, we were under pressure after losing Aiden and Miller in quick succession. But Klaasen played an incredible innings. Think 400 is enough, back our bowlers to defend it," opening batter Reeza Hendricks said to the broadcasters in the mid-game break
