The Pakistanis have now played six games and won just two which came early in the tournament. Their wins over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka are their only points on the board. Since then Pakistan has lost to India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa.

After their loss on Friday, many have written off Pakistan’s chances to make it to the final four stages. But there is a mathematical chance for Pakistan if the results of the games go their way. Here is how Pakistan can still make it to the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.

Qualification Scenarios for Pakistan

First, let us take a look at the games that are left for Babar Azam and his side. Pakistan will first take on Bangladesh on the 31st of October in Kolkata. This will be followed by games versus New Zealand on the 4th of November in Bangalore and England on the 11th of November in Kolkata. Pakistan first has to win all three games to keep their hopes.

Pakistan has a chance if Australia who are at number 4 in the table happen to lose three out of their four games left. The Aussies play New Zealand on Saturday in Dharamshala before facing England, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.

The Pakistani team and its fans will also hope that New Zealand lose all their games from now on. Tom Latham and his side will meet Pakistan in Bangalore in what will be a virtual quarter-final game.

There is also a chance that Pakistan can make the semi-finals if Sri Lanka and Afghanistan also lose at least two out of the four games left to play. Sri Lanka still has to face India, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. The Afghans on the other hand have to face Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.

At the moment South Africa is sitting at the top of the table with 10 points from six games. India has played five matches and won all of them and is set to face England in Lucknow on Sunday. While the chances are minimal Pakistan team, and its fans will hope results go their way. For that though they have to start winning and help their own cause.
