Earlier, in the game Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and elected to bat first on a batting paradise. The decision appeared to be misguided as Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Afridi had a strong start, securing early wickets by dismissing Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto in his initial two overs. Haris Rauf, despite conceding boundaries at the start, managed to get rid of Mushfiqur Rahim.

This initial slump left Bangladesh at 23/3, but Litton Das and Mahmudullah formed a stabilizing fifty-run partnership. However, Litton Das's soft dismissal in the 21st over, courtesy of Iftikhar Ahmed, disrupted their progress. Subsequently, the scoring rate decreased, and although Mahmudullah reached fifty, he couldn't advance further and fell to Shaheen after scoring 56 runs.

Shakib found his rhythm after a slow start but was eventually dismissed by Rauf. The lower-order batsmen struggled, and Mohammad Wasim Jr.'s reverse swing and well-directed deliveries limited Bangladesh to a total of just 204 runs. Shaheen and Wasim each took three wickets, while Rauf claimed two.

Pakistan chases the target with ease

In the pursuit of their target, Abdullah Shafique partnered with his new opening companion, Fakhar Zaman, who made his return to the team after several matches on the bench. Together, they provided the team with an excellent start, forming a formidable 128-run partnership for the first wicket.

Β Shafique showcased his batting prowess, securing his fourth score of 50 or more in the tournament with elegant strokes. Fakhar, in his comeback match, demonstrated his potency at the top of the order, playing a splendid innings of 81 runs, including seven sixes and three fours, effectively dashing any hopes for Bangladesh. Pakistan lost just three wickets, all to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, but those dismissals came in an attempt to accelerate the scoring, as they comfortably clinched victory with 17.3 overs to spare.
