The 25th game of the ODI World Cup 2023 is set to witness England take on Sri Lanka on Thursday in Bengaluru. It is a do-or-die clash for both teams as neither can afford a loss in their respective 5th game of the tournament.

Defending champions England has played four games winning just one versus Bangladesh and losing the rest three. Their last loss against South Africa was by a massive 229 runs in Mumbai on Saturday. This loss had a huge impact as far as the net run rate is concerned. The English had also lost the game prior to that against Afghanistan by 69 runs.

Sri Lanka on the other hand will into the game with huge confidence. The Kusal Mendis-led side opened their ODI World Cup 2023 account with a win over the Netherlands by 5 wickets. This was after the 1996 World Cup winners had lost their first three games in a row. Sri Lanka are 7th in the points table while England are 8th in the table.

Yet another run-fest in Bengaluru?

Bengaluru hosted its first game of the ODI World Cup 2023 last Friday between Australia and Pakistan. The match saw over 650 runs being scored with David Warner and Mitchell Marsh scoring centuries.

On Tuesday the locals woke up to the coldest morning witnessed in ten years with the weather at 17.1 degrees. It is expected to be another great day for cricket as the weather gods seem to show mercy finally.

The daytime temperature is expected to be around 31 degrees with the nighttime temperature set to be between 16-18 degrees. The skipper winning the toss will want to bowl first as the dew is set to play a major role in the game.

Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has hosted 27 ODI games so far. Traditionally it is known to be a high-scoring venue as it was seen during the last game. The fast bowlers will get early help during the afternoon session. Once the ball gets old there is a good chance for the spinners to come into play.

In the second innings, it is likely that there will be some early swing on offer for the seam bowlers. But once the ball goes soft it will be a perfect pitch for the batters to enjoy themselves under the lights. The outfield is electric and the short boundaries will make it yet another run-fest.

In the 25 completed games in Bengaluru teams batting first and chasing have won it 12 times each. The only tied game at this venue was during the 2011 World Cup game between India and England. Sachin Tendulkar and Andrew Strauss had scored centuries in that game which saw a last-ball thriller.
