Match 42 of the 2023 ODI World Cup saw South Africa taking on Afghanistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, November 10. The game was of little importance as it would not make a significant impact in the tournament. Despite Afghanistan putting up a decent fight, the Proteas' managed to win by five wickets to end their group stage on a high note.

South Africa had already confirmed their semi-final berth and will face five-time champions Australia in the last four. On the other hand, Afghanistan's road ended after New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by a huge margin. The Asian sidehad to beat the Proteas by an unthinkable margin to qualify for the knockouts. However, they will be proud of their campaign in this edition, having won four out of nine games.
India tops the points table with an unbeaten 8-game winning streak, while South Africa is in the second position with 7 wins. Australia occupies the third spot and New Zealand have almost secured the last place. South Africa's Quinton de Kock tops the list of leading scorers with 550 runs in eight matches. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's Dilshan Madushanka, who has taken 21 wickets in eight matches, is currently the leading wicket-taker.
