In the 40th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, European neighbors, England and Netherlands played each other. They played each other in an ODI World Cup for the first time after 2011. Meanwhile, talking about both teams, the defending champions, England were playing for pride and a spot in the Champions Trophy 2025.

Apparently, teams finishing in the top eight including Pakistan (hosts of CT25) will qualify for the tournament. The Dutch were also playing for the same. Ahead of the tournament, no one would have thought the Three Lions would fall to this stage in the tournament. Meanwhile, for the first time in the tournament, the holders won the toss and batted first.
Despite the batting hiccups, the Blue Brigade reached 339/9 thanks to Ben Stokes' hundred. In reply, the Orange Army was bolwed out for 179 runs, losing the game by 160 runs. With this win, the Three Lions' Champions Trophy 2025 hopes are alive.
