Nine contenders for Player of the Tournament award in ODI World Cup 2023

Cricket: The tournament has seen some terrific performers individually. Nine of them have been nominated as contenders to bag the award by the apex board.

As the ODI World Cup 2023 has come towards the end, there has been talks over the best player of the tournament. To decide it, the apex board came up with a total of 9 contenders who are deserving to be the Player of the Tournament. The fans can vote their favorite players by going to the official site of the apex board. Here are the nine players who are nominated by the International cricket board to be the contenders for the Player of the Tournament award.

9. Glenn Maxwell 

Glenn Maxwell played an exceptional knock against Afghanistan to pull off a near impossible run chase at wankhede stadium in Mumbai. Against Netherlands, Maxwell set the new record for the fastest World Cup ton, as he got to the milestone in just 40 balls. Maxwell has been handy with the ball as well. With the bat, Maxwell has scored 398 runs at an incredible strike rate. With the ball, Maxwell has claimed 5 wickets at a good economy rate.

Daryl Mitchell played a couple of fantastic knocks against India in both the group stage and the semifinal of the ODI World Cup 2023. The middle order batter has been one of the best batters in the tournament. Mitchell was consistent and aggrssive at the same time. The Kiwi batter was the lone warrior for new Zealand in the match against India. In the tournament, Mitchell scored 552 runs with the bat and impressed the fans with his clean striking. 

7. Quinton De Kock 

Quinton de Kock was one of the best wicketkeeper batters in the tournament. The only competition for him has been KL Rahul. In the group stage of the tournament, De Kock scored runs for fun. The Southpaw scored four hundreds in the tournament, the most for a batter from South Africa in a single edition of the tournament. In 10 innings, De Kock scored 594 runs. The performance of South Africa depended on the starts he provided.

6. Jasprit Bumrah 

Jasprit Bumrah has been one of the best bowlers in the tournament. In the Powerplay overs, Bumrah has claimed wickets at a very good economy. In the middle overs, Bumrah has bowled some good spells. In the death overs, Bumrah has been able to control the flow of runs. In 10 innings, Bumrah has been able to pick 18 wickets. The skill sets of Bumrah has been at a full display, as he has helped India to be a force to reckon with. 

5. Adam Zampa 

Adam Zampa has been the best bowler of Australia. The leg-spinner has helped Australia to reach the final of the tournament with his wicket taking abilities. Till the semifinal, Zampa was the leading wicket taker of the tournament. Currently, Zampa has been the second highest wicket taker in the tournament with 22 wickets to his name in 10 innings. In some cases, Zampa has been handy with the bat too, particularly against Engalnd where his cameo helped Australia to win the match. 

4. Rachin Ravindra 

Rachin Ravindra has been the emerging player of the tournament. At a young age, rachin has proved himself as a capable batter in the biggest cricket stage. The Southpaw scored 578 runs with the bat and claimed 5 wickets with the ball. Ravindra registered hundreds against some of the top teams in the world like England, Australia, and Pakistan. For a 23-year-old to have such a debut in the World Cup is a sensational feat. 

3. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has been the best opener and best captain in the tournament. As a batter, Rohit has provided aggressive starts with the bat. The stars of Rohit has helped India to get off to a flier in their games. It has allowed other batters around him to bat freely. As a captain, Rohit has been aggressive with his field set, bowling changes, and other minute factors. With the bat, Rohit has scored 550 runs at a strike rate of over 123. 

2. Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami has been arguably the best bowler of the tournament. In 6 matches, Shami has claimed a whopping 23 wickets, which has been terrific. With the new ball and with the old ball, Shami has been effective. Right from the first ball of the tournament, Shami has been on the money. With his seam bowling, Shami has impressed everyone. The pacer has the best bowling average and the best bowling strike rate for a bowler in the history of the World Cups. 

1. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli has been the leading run scorer in the tournament. the star batter has scored more runs than any batter in a single edition of the tournament. In 10 innings, Kohli has scored 711 runs at an average of over 101, at a strike rate of over 90, including 3 hundreds and 5 fifty plus scores. Against New Zealand, Kohli scored a hundred in the semifinal and became the first ever batter to score 50 hundreds in ODIs. Kohli is the most likely candidate to win the award.
