With Hardik Pandya ruled out due to injury, Yadav and Mohammed Shami were included in the lineup and both of them put up an impressive performance. The 28-year-old did not let himself down in a crucial situation, a quick-fire knock against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, November 2. India are currently locking horns against Sri Lanka in Match 33 of the 2023 ODI World Cup. After being asked to bat first, an all-round batting effort from India has taken them to a massive total of 357.

Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill laid the foundation after the early wicket of captain Rohit Sharma. The two right-handers put on a 188-run stand for the second wicket but fell short when they were on the brink of centuries. The baton was handed over to Shreyas Iyer who took on the Lankan bowlers without any mercy. Iyer's aggressive knock, which resulted in 56-ball 82, helped India to set a highly competitive target.

His innings consisted of three fours and six sixes - the joint second-highest sixes for India in a World Cup innings. One of his maximums against pacer Kasun Rajitha in the 36th over went for a whopping 106-metre distance - the longest six in the tournament. However, what caught fans' attention was that the ball landed where Yuzvendra Chahal and his wife Dhanashree Verma sitting. 

The couple was witnessing Iyer's crazy hitting along with Rohit's wife Ritika Sajdeh and a few other cricketers’ spouses. In a viral image, everyone in the particular stand can be seen running away as Iyer's giant six is ​​seen coming towards them.

Speaking after the first innings, Iyer said: "I think it was a pretty good wicket to bat, the ball was coming on and there was some nice bounce. I could settle for a while and then play my shots. It was magnificent to watch (on the partnership between Gill and Kohli), the way they took the singles, twos and the boundaries, they laid the platform for us. We were told that the odd ball was stopping and holding a bit, so it was a good partnership that they had and it helped us later on."
