India vs Australia

India started the ODI World Cup 2023 with a big win against Australia. Under tough circumstances, in difficult conditions to play, Indian players stepped up and delivered. Australia was earlier restricted to a low total by the Indian bowlers. Although there were hiccups early in the Indian innings, Indian batters somehow managed to maintain their composure to win the match.

Batting first, Australia managed to score only 199 runs. Indian bowlers were exceptional as a unit. With the new ball, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj were amazing. Bumrah dismissed Mitchell Marsh. Steve Smith came in and framed a decent partnership for the second wicket with David Warner. Kuldeep dismissed Warner, which led to Ravindra Jadeja’s show with the ball.

Jadeja was exceptional with the ball. In his 10 overs, Jadeja bowled 2 maiden overs, conceded only 28 runs, and got the wickets of Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Alex Carey. The delivery to dismiss Smith was a peach. Further, Kuldeep got rid of Glenn Maxwell. Ashwin dismissed Cameron Green and set the game for India. But the contribution from the lower order meant that Australia cruised to a total of 199 runs.

India cruised past the target despite the major top-order collapse

Chasing the target, India was in deep trouble. In the very first over, Kishan gave away his wicket to Mitchell Starc. In the second over, Josh Hazlewood claimed two wickets. Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer had to return to the pavilion. That was when KL Rahul joined Virat Kohli. Australia almost had Virat, if not for a dropped catch from Marsh, which changed the match completely.

Virat went on to play a big knock and helped the Indian cause. But the star of the show was KL Rahul, who remained calm and took India home. The middle-order batter hardly played a false shot and anchored the chase along with Virat. Rahul ensured that India not just remained in the chase, but also was a step ahead in the chase. Rahul scored an unbeaten 97 and helped India to register a 6-wicket win.
