Kyle Jamieson is all set to join New Zealand's squad for the remainder of the ODI World Cup 2023. The tall pacer was already in New Zealand's squad as a cover for the pacers who were prone to injuries. In the absence of Matt Henry, Jamieson is set to enter the squad of New Zealand for the matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, both of which will take place in Bengaluru.

During the match between New Zealand and South Africa in Pune, Henry suffered a hamstring injury on his right leg, which looked a bit serious. Though Henry came out to bat, the injury was not good. After the match, Henry was taken to scans. According to New Zealand's head coach, Gary Stead, Jamieson would be joining New Zealand's coach for the match against Pakistan.

Stead said that New Zealand would not be looking to risk, as Henry's scan results are yet to come. Moreover, Lockie Ferguson also suffered an Achilles injury while bowling against Australia earlier this week in Dharamshala. Hence, Jamieson is brought as a cover to the two bowlers in the squad of New Zealand, which will be playing a couple of matches in Bengaluru before the semifinal stage.

'We look forward to welcoming him back into the group' - Gary Stead

Speaking to the media after the match against South Africa, Stead said that Jamieson would be joining the squad for the match against Pakistan. "Kyle's on his way over as we speak and we look forward to welcoming him back into the group. He'll likely train with us on Friday with a mind to being available for Saturday's game," said Stead in the post-match conference.

Stead said that it would not be difficult for Jamieson to re-adjust to the Indian conditions. Jamieson represented the local franchise in the IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore, in the IPL 2021, although it was not played in M Chinnaswamy stadium. The tall pacer can get some swing. If the surface offers some seam and bounce as it did during the match between England and Sri Lanka, Jamieson can be lethal.
