IPL 2024: MS Dhoni’s cryptic social media message confuses fans

It has been a whirlwind day for Chennai Super Kings fans. Earlier in the day it came to be known that Devon Conway is set to miss 8 weeks of action. Later in the day, the fans were in for more confusion thanks to their skipper MS Dhoni.

There is a Facebook post doing the rounds which has come from MS Dhoni’s official page. The message read “Can’t wait for the new season and the new ‘role’. Stay Tuned!” This has created a buzz amongst the fans wondering what new role MSD is speaking about.

Chennai Super Kings are set to begin their IPL 2024 season with their first game against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The defending champions will be hoping to make a good start to the season with three tricky fixtures lined up. After the RCB game, Chennai will face Gujarat, Delhi and Hyderabad in the first schedule that was announced.

Is MS Dhoni going to relinquish his captaincy again?

Two years ago, Chennai Super Kings fans were shocked when MS Dhoni quit as the skipper of the side. Ravindra Jadeja was given the captaincy eventually just two days before the season could begin. 

There is wide speculation in social media that MS Dhoni might be contemplating giving up his captaincy. This could come as a huge blow for many CSK fans as they want to see their favourite Number 7 end on a high.

Amongst other speculations doing the rounds, it is said that MS Dhoni could even call it quits before the season begins. It isn’t for sure what the former Indian skipper is hinting at but the social media has been buzzing. 

The CSK team is set to assemble this Saturday as the first group of players start to train. Names like Deepak Chahar, Mukesh Chaudhary, Simarjeet Singh, and Rajvardhan Hangarekar are set to be part of the unit. 

Mukesh Chaudhary had missed the entire IPL 2023 season due to injury. Deepak Chahar had also pulled out after playing a few games before making his return in the final stages of the tournament. 

The loss of Devon Conway has meant that CSK now has to look at a new opener for the team. It is expected that the franchise will announce the replacement player shortly.
