The Indian Premier League (IPL) debuted in 2008 and has become one of the most popular sports leagues in the world. While this T20 tournament serves as a platform for players from all over the world to showcase their skills, it provides an enjoyable two-month period for millions of fans. Monsterous sixes, thrilling finishes, cracking deliveries, heartbreaks, dramas, and heated exchanges all add to the intensity of the competition.

However, the cash-rich league offers plenty of hilarious moments both on and off the field, showing a lighter side to a fierce battle. Although such moments are rare, when they do happen, they definitely grab everyone's attention. Over the past 16 editions, we have witnessed several humorous instances and in this article, we look at five of them.

5. Shikhar Dhawan's taunting dance moves at the crease

Kings XI Punjab (PBKS) bowler Ravichandran Ashwin has been embroiled in a huge controversy after he dismissed Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Jos Buttler by mankading in the IPL 2019. In another match, Ashwin made a similar attempt to run out Delhi Capitals' (DC) Shikhar Dhawan, but the southpaw was inside the crease. During the next delivery, Dhawan looked at his compatriot from the non-striker's end and put on some hilarious steps. 

4. David Warner gives flying kiss to Kieron Pollard

Kieron Pollard is always energetic on the field. The Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder exchanged a few words with David Warner during his side's clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2013. Pollard delivered a dot ball to Warner and was seen walking towards him to say something. The Australian responded with a flying kiss to the Caribbean. Pollard, in return, gave a hilarious expression that sounded like, "Ewwwww...."

3. Virat Kohli bows down to Sarfaraz Khan

Virat Kohli is often seen as aggressive on the field but he also has a funny and jovial side. His other side was on display when 17-year-old Sarfaraz Khan helped Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to score 200 in IPL 2015 match against RR. Sarfaraz walked off the pitch at the end of the innings after scoring 45* off 21 balls, with captain Kohli waiting for him on the boundary line. Kohli bowed to the youngster with folded hands in admiration.

2. Kieron Pollard uses tape to show his displeasure with umpire

Pollard got into a heated argument with Chris Gayle when RCB were chasing a 210-run target in IPL season 8. The MI all-rounder insisted the umpire take action against Gayle, but nothing happened. In response, Pollard went to the dugout and taped his mouth to show his displeasure to the match official.

Chris Gayle and Yuvraj Singh share a friendly bond on and off the field. In IPL 2015, the match between RCB and DC was called off due to rain. As the players rushed towards the pavilion, DC all-rounder Yuvraj pushed Gayle in a friendly manner. In response, Gayle started chasing Yuvraj with his bat.
