The experienced India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin appeared rather sombre at the conclusion of Day 1 during the second Test match against England in Visakhapatnam on Friday, February 02. Notably, Ashwin was called in to bat just before the close of play, entering the crease after India lost their sixth wicket, wicketkeeper KS Bharat, in the 91st over.

Batting at number eight, Ashwin came to the crease and faced four deliveries from Shoaib Bashir during the penultimate over of the day, managing to score one run. In the final over, he retained a strike against Rehan Ahmed, playing out the entire over. He even struck a boundary off the second-to-last ball before defending the last delivery.

The star off-spinner remained unbeaten on 5* runs and the all-rounder stood as players from both teams commenced shaking hands at the end of play. However, Ashwin appeared somewhat irritated as he engaged in an animated conversation with on-field umpire Marais Erasmus. While the exact cause of Ashwin's annoyance remains unclear, it may be connected to the prolonged duration of the final session.

Yashasvi Jaiswal reached his double-century

The young India batting sensation, Jaiswal scored his first double-century in his international Test career. After remaining unbeaten at 179 runs at the end of Day 1, the southpaw played cautiously on Day 2. With England attacking with the ball, the left-hand batter stood his ground and played some brilliant shots in his innings.

The star batter became the fourth youngest batter in Indian cricket history to score 200 runs in Test match cricket. The most fascinating part of his innings was that Jaiswal reached his century with a six and he even replicated similar stroke-making as he hit Shoaib Bashir for a back-to-back six and boundary to complete his double century. Eventually, the talismanic batter was dismissed by James Anderson on 209 runs off 290 deliveries including 19 boundaries and seven maximums to his name.
